Lens Suggestions.

Postby simplegal » Tue Nov 10, 2009 10:02 pm

I am looking for a good long distance lens that will take nice pictures of wildlife from about 500 feet. I currently have a 28-90mm but that just doesn't cut it for lengthy shots. I will be using it mainly for wildlife shots and distance shots of scenery (fall leaves, green mountains, etc) I currently have a Pentax SLR but will be purchasing a new Pentax DSLR and want to order it with the longer distance lens and use my current 28-90 as an everyday lens (I already checked and the new DSLR takes this lens as well). Thanks in advance!!

PS. IF anyone is in the market for a 6 yr old 35mm pentax slr pm me.

I would stay below 300mm just do to the fact that you are working with a cropped sensor. If you need anything longer, look into a teleconverter.

I am a fan of SIGMA lenses; some are a bit pricey, but the quality is outstanding.

Why not keep the 35mm as a back-up. As long as the lens is compatible

Thanks for the info. I have a couple of choices for lens' with the new purchase. A 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED Lenses or a 55-300mm DA L Zoom Lens. What would be the best in your opinion for someone who is slightly above amateur? If these aren't good lens I can purchase the body seperate and go from there. I may just hang onto the 35mm I don't know yet. That camera is just outstanding but with the number of pics I take I am really in need of a digital SLR. One has finally come on the market that is in a good price range and has HD video so I think I am going to get a new DSLR for Christmas!! :D Thanks for the info!!

Hmmm, of those two I like the 55-300 over the 50-200. The extra 100mm will be more versatile, and since you have the 28-90 the wide side doesn't matter.
